Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is coming up in Alabama this weekend July 19-21! Here’s what you need to know about Alabama’s sales tax holiday:

  • The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01am on July 19 and ends at midnight on July 21

  • Items that will be tax free includes clothing up to $100, computers up to $750, school supplies up to $50 and books up to $50.

  • According to the guidelines Georgia residents should be able to order items online at stores in Alabama for pick up to avoid the crowds.

For complete details and guidelines click here.

In addition to the sales tax savings teachers and homeschool parents have the opportunity to save additional money with teacher’s discounts. These programs require verification such as your staff ID, recent paystub or your homeschool declaration of intent. Please refer to each company for their guidelines. Here are the stores that offer discounts to teachers:

  • Between 7/14 and 8/24 save 20% off at Target by clicking this link.

  • Joann is offering 30% off until July 31 and then 15% off after that when you sign up for their teacher’s rewards program. Sign up here

  • Michael’s offers a 15% discount on everything with their teacher discount, join here.

  • Office Depot/Office Max has a 10% off teacher’s savings pass and 25% off bonus rewards on qualifying purchases in store. For this offer you'll need an ID card if you are a homeschooling parent. You can search “free homeschool ID” to find many different websites and templates to create a homeschool ID. I found a website called Homeschool Planet during my search.

  • Thrift Books offers a free used book with every four books purchased. Check it out here.
