2025 Graduation Savings Hack for Parents: How to Save Big on Decorations Now!
Hey! If you’ve been following my journey on the blog, YouTube channel, or Facebook page, you know how much I LOVE finding creative ways to save money. I’m always on the lookout for tips and tricks to stash away for future milestones and I thought of this one back in 2018 for my daughter’s kindergarten graduation. This is one hack you’re going to want to try!
So, let’s talk about graduation parties. If you have a 2025 graduate, now is the perfect time to start planning ahead and scoring some incredible deals. Trust me, a little effort now can save you a ton later!
Here’s the tip: At the start of January and running through early spring, stores begin to heavily discount New Year’s decorations. And guess what? Those “2025” decorations look remarkably similar to the pricey graduation decor you’ll see in May and June.
Sure, you might want to sprinkle in a few graduation-themed items with caps and diplomas when the season rolls around, but for the bulk of your party decor, these New Year’s clearance finds are absolute gold. I’ve spotted decorations for less than a dollar at places like Hobby Lobby, and the deals get even better about four to five days after the holiday. That said, the earlier you shop, the better the selection!
Don’t have a graduate yet: If you’re planning even further ahead, shop for generic graduation items (think banners, balloons, and streamers without the year) in late summer or early fall when graduation supplies go on clearance. Then, circle back in January to grab the year-specific deals. By splitting up your purchases, you can snag everything you need while keeping your budget happy.
I hope this hack helps you stay on track with your graduation planning—and your wallet! If you enjoyed this tip, don’t forget to subscribe to our weekly navigation for even more savvy savings ideas, local family-friendly events, and encouragement for all the twists and turns on the road of life.
