Homeschool Happenings is back! Here’s what’s coming up this month:

  • 8/6 - Little Sprouts (Columbus Botanical Garden, Columbus)

    • Lesson: Flutter, Buzz, Pollinate: An Adventure into the World of Pollinators 3-5 year olds (+ 1 free caretaker) Buzz into a magical journey into the vibrant and essential world of pollinators. First Tuesday of every month

  • 8/8 - Budding Naturalist (Columbus Botanical Garden, Columbus)

    • Topic: Flutter, Buzz, Pollinate: An Adventure into the World of Pollinators

      1st-5th grade students (+ 1 free caretaker). Buzz into a magical journey into the vibrant and essential world of pollinators. Second Thursday of every month!

  • 8/8 - Homeschool Happenings (Cusseta-Chattahoochee Public Library, Cusseta)

    • Meet and Learn with other homeschool families! Hands-on activities, stories, experiments, and sharing.

  • 8/9 - Homeschool Fridays (Treadstone Climbing Gym, Columbus)

    • for Homeschool Families. Every 2nd AND 4th Friday each month 3pm - 6pm. Gear Included

  • 8/12- Solid Rock Theatre Company Open House (Royal Baptist Church, Newnan)

    • Solid Rock Theatre Company (formerly Stage Right) is a theatre company for homeschool kids age 11-18. Founded by Katherine Kicklighter in 2012, this fall semester will be under new leadership. We are very excited to carry on this legacy and would love the chance to meet you and show you what SRTC is all about!

  • 8/12- Homeschool Day: Trees + Math (Trees Atlanta, Atlanta)

    • Nature and numbers come together in this educational Homeschool Day! To monitor tree health, scientists often measure trees to learn more about their growth. Join us as we learn how to use specialized tools for calculating a trees' height, spread and trunk diameter. These measurements can help us estimate a tree’s age and carbon dioxide intake.

      Appropriate for rising 2nd-5th graders; ages 7-10 years. Fee per child, scholarships offered.

  • 8/13- Look at Lunch (Columbus Museum, Columbus)

    • Spend your lunch break at COMU with a 20-minute gallery presentattion followed by lunch in the courtyard. Bring your food or purchase from the Museum Café.

  • 8/14- Homeschool Pottery (Britt David Studio, Columbus)

    • Classes offered 10:30-12:00, click the link for details.

  • 8/14- Enviro Explorers (6-12 years) (Oxbow Meadows, Columbus)

    • Oxbow’s Enviro Explorers program series is designed for ages 6-12 years, joined by a parent, and will explore the world during programs led by an Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Educator. Each session will focus on a new topic that inspires working collaboratively in the areas of nature exploration, discovery, data collection, hypothesizing, experimenting, and creating. Tickets only required for the participants. Adults and children age 2 and under are free. Limited tickets available. Walk-ins not guaranteed entry.

  • 8/14- Calligraphy Workshop for Homeschoolers (Ages 10-15) (Peachtree City Library, Peachtree City)

    • Join us at Peachtree City Library for a homeschool calligraphy workshop and learn the craft and history of Italic Calligraphy. Markers and paper will be provided. Seats are limited. This free event will be held in the Children’s Storytime room. Ages 10-15 only . This is a free event. Registration required.

  • 8/15 - Homeschool in the Park: Welcome Back Homeschool All About Bamboo (Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain)

    • Welcome Back Homeschool event, Geared toward families who homeschool. Join Rangers and hear about interesting facts about this amazing plant. Make a bamboo walking stick with paracord grip and take a short nature hike. $10 ages 7 and up. Pre-register and pre-payment required by calling (706) 663-4858. Location will be at picnic shelter below the dam in the campground.

  • 8/15 - Knee-High Naturalists (3-6 years) (Oxbow Meadows, Columbus)

    • Looking for options for your early learners? Oxbow’s Knee-High Naturalists program is designed for ages 3-6 years, joined by a parent, and will explore the world during programs led by an Oxbow Meadows Environmental Educator. Each session will focus on a new topic that encourages working together to discover, imagine, laugh, craft, and explore the outdoors. $5 per participating child. Tickets only required for the participants. Adults and children age 2 and under are free. Limited tickets available. Walk-ins not guaranteed entry.

  • 8/19 - Homeschool 4-H Club (Coweta County Extension Office, Newnan)

    • Homeschool 4-H will begin on Monday, August 19th from 11:00-12:00 at the UGA Extension Office. Enjoy fun, hands-on STEM, public speaking, and leadership lessons the whole family can enjoy. 4-H Is free to join and is open to all Coweta County students. We have so much more to offer in addition to Homeschool lessons. Register when you come to our first meeting on August 19th and discover all of the exciting opportunities 4-H has for you!

  • 8/21- Fit Friends A Homeschool PE Program (John P Thayer YMCA, Columbus)

    • Please join us for an interest meeting about our upcoming Homeschool PE Program.

  • 8/23 - Harris County Homeschool Collective Open House (First Baptist Church, Pine Mountain)

    • Join us on August 23 at 11am for an informational meeting followed by a tour of the facility where we meet, register for classes, there will be a Q& A session & curriculum/clothing swap. This meeting is required for all new members, and it is suggested that returning members attend as well!

  • 8/26 - Talk with Officer Tim Greene (Harris County Public Library, Hamilton)

    • The Chattahoochee Valley Homeschoolers are having Officer Tim Greene come to the Harris County Public Library on Monday, August 26 at 1pm to talk. This event is open to the community!

  • 8/29 - STEAM Day (Biblical History Center, Lagrange)

    • Make sure you sign up for our August STEAM Day! You don't want to miss out on these fun mornings of hands-on learning. Space is limited and reservations are required

  • 8/30- Majestic Caverns Homeschool Day (Majestic Caverns, Childersburg, AL)

    • Make your child’s learning come alive and feel like a hero as they both learn and have fun. Explore the depths of our cavern, engage in above ground fun and even have an underground classroom for an unforgettable experience.

  • 8/30- Homeschool Day (Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Atlanta)

    • Supplement your life science, botanical and environmental studies curriculum with a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Walk through the Fuqua Conservatory to discover a lush tropical rainforest, make observations on unique orchids and marvel at bizarre succulents from South Africa and Madagascar. Tip-toe through the treetops on the Kendeda Canopy Walk and visit the Edible Garden to learn more about the plants we eat. Grade-specific, self-guided materials will be available in the Visitor Center and drop-in tours of the Fuqua Conservatory will be available to a limited number of attendees on a first come first serve basis.

Weekly Events:

  • Homeschool P.E. (Sky Zone, Columbus)

    P.E. Break at Sky Sky Zone, Fridays 1pm-3pm // Only $5 per HomeSchool Student (not available during School breaks and Holidays) Discounted jump prices specifically for Homeschool students. Take a break from the books and get some awesome, healthy exercise in on a consistent basis. Not valid during school breaks (i.e., Summer) Discounted prices offered for all HomeSchool students of any age. Every Weekday during the school year between 1pm – 3pm.

  • School Day Play (Urban Air Adventure Park, Newnan)

    Don't forget starting next Friday we will have Jumperoo from 10am-12pm and School Day Play with follow right behind from 12pm-3pm.

  • Homeschool Fun Days (Fairmount Community Center, Sharpsburg)
