Homeschool Happenings: September 2024

Here’s what’s coming up this month:

  • 9/19 - Homeschool in the Park: FDR State Park & the CCC (Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain)

    • Geared towards families who homeschool. Join us in learning about the largest state park in Georgia! Learn a bit about the Great Depression, FDR and the CCC with activities. Then take a tour of Liberty Bell Pool, a CCC structure! Cost $8 per student. Limited space, so pre-registration required. Meet at Stone Picnic Shelter near the pool.

  • 9/19 - Homeschool Day: Patent Pending (Atlanta History Center, Atlanta)

    • Come with us as we walk through a timeline of some of the inventions that changed the world. Learn about the history of their development, the inventors who made them, and why they are seen as revolutionary. You'll even have a chance to dive into the invention process yourself!

  • 9/19 or 9/20 - Homeschool Science Days (Callaway Resort & Gardens , Pine Mountain)

    • Gardening Galore: Learn how to grow vegetables and herbs in your own backyard. Students will have the opportunity to plant cool-season vegetables at the Pioneer Log Cabin and will get to take their own veggie seeds home.

  • 9/20: Fall Homeschool Day at Alabama Safari Park (Hull, AL)

    • Join Alabama Safari Park for a fun day of learning and discovery specifically designed for homeschool students! On Friday, September 20, homeschool families can experience a full-day of special education programming and keeper chats at the Alabama Safari Park where the classroom will literally come to life with hands-on interactive programs in an exciting learning environment.

  • 9/25- Homeschool Pottery (Britt David Studio, Columbus)

    • Classes offered 10:30-12:00, click the link for details.

  • 9/25- Homeschool Day: Fishing (High Falls State Park, Jackson)

    • Bring Homeschoolers to learn the importance of freshwater in our world and what macroinvertebrates can tell us about our water. Be ready to hike and possibly get your shoes wet! Spaces limited, must register in advance.

  • 9/26 - STEAM Day (Biblical History Center, Lagrange)

    • Make sure you sign up for our September STEAM Day, Ancient Mythology! You don't want to miss out on these fun mornings of hands-on learning. Space is limited and reservations are required

  • 9/26 - Homeschool Happenings (Cusseta-Chattahoochee Public Library, Cusseta)

    • Storytimes, movies, arts & crafts, and makerspaces designed for our homeschool families (but all are welcome!).

  • 9/26 - Early Explorers (Alabama Wildlife Federation, Millbrook, AL)

    • Early Explorers is a preschool program that ANC offers to the public monthly best for children 8 and under. Last Thursday of each month, 10-11am. Includes various theme related activities! All materials will be provided. Program begins promptly at 10am. Cost is $10 per participating child, adults are free. Space is limited, please call ahead or email Matt Vines. Please purchase your program ticket in advance. Please check in at the receptionist desk upon arrival for the program.

  • 9/26 - The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show (River Center for the Performing Arts, Columbus)

    • The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show has been dazzling audiences around the globe for over seven years, faithfully bringing Eric Carle’s timeless classics to the stage.

      Created by Jonathan Rockefeller, this production of the critically acclaimed show features a menagerie of over 75 magical puppets, including the star of the show –The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Alongside The Very Hungry Caterpillar, every production of the show features three other Eric Carle stories. Audiences travel the world with 10 Little Rubber Ducks; meet one Very Busy Spider, and spend time with friends big and small in Head To Toe. These beloved tales are brought to life by a captivating cast of storytellers, sweeping original music, and stunning puppetry.

Weekly Events:

  • Homeschool P.E. (Sky Zone, Columbus)

    P.E. Break at Sky Sky Zone, Fridays 1pm-3pm // Only $5 per HomeSchool Student (not available during School breaks and Holidays) Discounted jump prices specifically for Homeschool students. Take a break from the books and get some awesome, healthy exercise in on a consistent basis. Not valid during school breaks (i.e., Summer) Discounted prices offered for all HomeSchool students of any age. Every Weekday during the school year between 1pm – 3pm.

  • School Day Play (Urban Air Adventure Park, Newnan)

    Don't forget starting next Friday we will have Jumperoo from 10am-12pm and School Day Play with follow right behind from 12pm-3pm.

  • Homeschool Fun Days (Fairmount Community Center, Sharpsburg)
