Homeschool Happenings: November 2024

Here’s what’s coming up this month:

  • 11/4: Brizi Oaks Enrichment Program: Kayaking Skills & Bushcraft tarp shelters (Woodbury)

    • 3pm- Kayaking skills: Learn to apply basic strokes into a series of buoy challenges. Spend time on the lake exploring. First time students will have time to learn the three basic strokes essential for kayaking. Recommended for ages 6 and up. Life vests are provided but if you have a personal vest please bring it!
      4pm- Bushcraft tarp shelters: Learn to build emergency shelters using tarps and sticks and apply the appropriate knots to secure them. Explore a variety of shelter methods and designs using tarps and correct knots to secure them.

  • 11/5:  Majestic Caverns Homeschool Day (Majestic Caverns, Childersburg, AL)

    • Make your child’s learning come alive and feel like a hero as they both learn and have fun. Explore the depths of our cavern, engage in above ground fun and even have an underground classroom for an unforgettable experience.

  • 11/6,11/13, 11/27: Homeschool Pottery (Britt David Studio, Columbus)

    • Classes offered 10:30-12:00, click the link for details.

  • 11/7: Homeschool Hangout - Secret Messages (Harris County Public Library, Hamilton)

    • Join us for an hour of learning for our home school families. The sessions are held on the first Thursday of every month. Topics change each month. Registration is required to ensure we have enough supplies for all. Please call us at 706-628-4685 to register.

  • 11/7 & 11/21: Homeschool Happenings (Cusseta-Chattahoochee Public Library, Cusseta)

    • Storytimes, movies, arts & crafts, and makerspaces designed for our homeschool families (but all are welcome!).

  • 11/7: Brizi Oaks Enrichment Program: Chemistry of Soap (Woodbury)

    • Learn the cold-process of making soap and all the chemistry it takes! Students will explore why oil and water don’t mix and the chemical process they both undergo to create soap. The process of soap making will be demonstrated and then students will make their own bar of soap to bring home.

  • 11/8 & 11/22: Homeschool Fridays (Treadstone Climbing Gym, Columbus)

    • for Homeschool Families. Every 2nd AND 4th Friday each month 3pm - 6pm. Gear Included

  • 11/12: Homeschool Play Day (Chuck E Cheese, Columbus)

    • On the 2nd Tuesday of every month, join us for Homeschool Play Days! From open – 4pm, score 90-minutes of All You Can Play games, a reusable Play Pass card, unlimited soft drinks, and all the E-Tickets you can earn on gameplay for just $11.99 per kid. A savings of up to $30 off! Simply arrive at your Fun Center and tell a cast member you’re there for Homeschool Play Day to receive this offer.

  • 11/12: Brizi Oaks Enrichment Program: Un-Be-Leaf-Able (Woodbury)

    • Art and science focus. This class is multi-level and can resonate with learners of all ages. We will begin with a dive into leaf symbolism in the Bible and make connections in our natural world. Then we will search for a variety of leaves on our forest walk and use them to create wax leaves, luminaries and more! See photosynthesis with your own eyes and explore why leaves change color. Meet new friends, explore nature through a new lens and take your art home

  • 11/13,11/14,11/15,11/19,11/20,11/21: Schoolhouse Rock Live Arts in Education performances(Springer Opera House, Columbus)

    • A pop culture phenomenon comes to the stage in Schoolhouse Rock Live! The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, tuneful songs, is a musical delight for all ages. Join us for an electrifying journey through the world of knowledge, where classic hits like "Conjunction Junction," "I'm Just a Bill," and "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" come to life in a toe-tapping, heart-warming experience..

  • 11/14: Homeschool at the Park: All about Turkeys! (Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain)

    • Gobble Gobble! Are you ready to learn about this magnificent bird! We will focus on Wild Turkey’s and their habitat, anatomy, and the turkey call. We will discuss a day in the life of a turkey at FDR! We will end the program with a turkey themed nature craft. Please pre-register and pay by calling the park office at

  • 11/18: Brizi Oaks Enrichment Program: Kayaking skills & Homemade Fire Starters  (Woodbury)

    • 3pm- Kayaking skills* $10/child (weather and water temperatures permitting) Apply the basic strokes to a series of challenges on the water. First time students will have some time to learn the three basic strokes essential for kayaking. Reccomended for ages 6 and up. Life vests provided but if you have a personal vest please bring it!

      4pm- Homemade Fire Starters $7/child Gather natural materials and combine them with wax for a simple and effective homemade fire starter to use on your next camping trip.

  • 11/21 or 11/22 : Homeschool Science Days (Callaway Resort & Gardens , Pine Mountain)

    • Gardening Galore: Learn how to grow vegetables and herbs in your own backyard. Students will have the opportunity to plant cool-season vegetables at the Pioneer Log Cabin and will get to take their own veggie seeds home.

  • 11/21: Early Explorers (Alabama Wildlife Federation, Millbrook, AL)

    • Early Explorers is a preschool program that ANC offers to the public monthly best for children 8 and under. Last Thursday of each month, 10-11am. Includes various theme related activities! All materials will be provided. Program begins promptly at 10am. Cost is $10 per participating child, adults are free. Space is limited, please call ahead or email Matt Vines. Please purchase your program ticket in advance. Please check in at the receptionist desk upon arrival for the program.

  • 11/25 or 26: Brizi Oaks Enrichment Program: Bushcraft Knife Skills and Open Fire Cooking (Woodbury)

    • 3:30-5pm- Introductory class for bushcraft knife skills and open fire cooking $15/child. Students will begin with peeling the bark off a stick to be used with baking Norwegian campfire bread. Learn proper grip, stance and strokes. While the bread is cooking over the campfire we will cover knife safety, care, and test ability of students to progress to higher skilled classes in the spring session. Finish with eating your campfire bread and roasting a hotdog to go with it. Parents and younger siblings are encouraged to learn alongside and enjoy hotdogs as well! **This will be the last Pop-up of 2024!**

  • Homeschool P.E. (Sky Zone, Columbus)

    P.E. Break at Sky Sky Zone, Fridays 1pm-3pm // Only $5 per HomeSchool Student (not available during School breaks and Holidays) Discounted jump prices specifically for Homeschool students. Take a break from the books and get some awesome, healthy exercise in on a consistent basis. Not valid during school breaks (i.e., Summer) Discounted prices offered for all HomeSchool students of any age. Every Weekday during the school year between 1pm – 3pm.

  • School Day Play (Urban Air Adventure Park, Newnan)

    Don't forget starting next Friday we will have Jumperoo from 10am-12pm and School Day Play with follow right behind from 12pm-3pm.

  • Homeschool Fun Days (Fairmount Community Center, Sharpsburg)
