MLK Day Activities 2025

Martin Luther King is celebrated today as a prominent leader in the Civil Rights Movement that lead to the freedoms many of us enjoy today. A beacon of hope, kindness, and equality Mr. Martin Luther King Jr is a great example of how we should each help to create the change we want to see in the world. Enjoy this list of activities to help your family celebrate this great legacy.

  1. Learn about discrimination: Children today may have a hard time understanding the racial discrimination that was once prevalent in our country. Take some time to talk to your kids about what it means to discriminate in an age-appropriate way. Explore the ways this was happening at the time through segregation and mistreatment of black citizens. Even if your children have never experienced racial discrimination, they may have been discriminated against for something they wore or maybe their faith. Talk about how this made them feel and why it’s never okay to mistreat someone based on appearance, social class, religious affiliation, etc.

  2. Watch a video about the Civil Rights Movement: The link below is a search via Youtube. Since this can be a sensitive subject this provides a starting point for you to preview the videos to see which ones you feel appropriate for your child’s ages. civil rights movement - YouTube
